The Baseline: 2017-2018 NBA SW Division Preview

The NBA’s SW Division is home to many proud franchises and coaches. The power always seems to reside in Texas and this season seems to be trending in the same direction…for the most part. On this week’s episode we breakdown the following:

Dallas Mavericks

Dennis Smith Jr. looks like and needs to be the real deal to help this team turn a corner once Dirk Nowitzki calls it quits. Have the Mavs gotten all they can from Wesley Matthews and can Harrison Barnes continue to be a plus scorer for a second season?

New Orleans Pelicans

DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis should put up monster stats but is the supporting cast strong enough to help them reach the playoffs? Are there too many strong personalities to make it work with Cousins, Rajon Rondo and Tony Allen?

Memphis Grizzlies

The Grit and Grind era in Memphis is going through a transformation but Marc Gasol and Mike Conley remain. Will the likes of Chandler Parsons and Tyreke Evans provide enough of a supporting cast to keep Memphis in the playoff hunt?

Houston Rockets

Chris Paul and James Harden are poised to make the Rockets the best in the division. How will the additions of P.J. Tucker and others impact this roster come playoff time?

San Antonio Spurs

Kawhi Leonard‘s injury is troublesome and the play of LaMarcus Aldridge has slipped. Is this the season the Spurs finally succumb to the whims of the West.
