Familiar hip-hop songs grace the ears as people enter the University of Miami’s Bank United Center for Sneaker Con Miami.
The event is for true ‘Sneaker Heads’ and isn’t for the timid. The slogan for the event reads “Buy, Sell, Trade” and one has to be well versed on the sneaker game to get what one wants. It’s that or be filthy rich without regard to the prices for some of the exclusives available. Vendors are kind, witty, enthusiastic but most of all they are about their business. A novice can get eaten alive at an event like this.
Young kids, teenagers and adults walk the aisles shopping their vendor’s merchandise almost like the good folks in New York’s Chinatown do. You can purchase from them on the spot or they may lure you back to their vendor both where other sizes and colors may be available. Sure you can negotiate but certain kicks just demand a minimum withdrawal from your debit account or wallet. For example I don’t recall seeing any Nike Foamposites for under $200 but I admittedly couldn’t get to every both or independent seller.
It just is what it is and there is truly a science to it all.
LeBrons ruled the event, at least in my opinion, with ill-designed colorways available in both the lows and high-top versions. Once you stocked up on sneakers others on the premises were selling socks, hats, shirts and other gear to properly accent what you just bought or may have at home. The event had something for everybody.
Whether you were willing to drop a G on a pair of limited edition kicks or wanted a $5 key chain you were obliged at Sneaker Con Miami.
